Our Story
We had built a good life in the Netherlands and were preparing for a career move to North Carolina in 2020. When Covid changed those plans, we decided to pause and rethink our direction. Choosing to let go of certainty and make space for something new.
As a family, we spent two years travelling by bus, from Northern Norway to Morocco. The journey gave us time to reflect on what truly mattered. Nature, space and a way of living more connected to our surroundings.
Along the way, we discovered Cantabria.
We eventually settled in La Revilla, in a protected natural area between San Vicente de la Barquera and Comillas. New construction here is limited and the landscape remains largely untouched. Yet we noticed that many houses stood closed for most of the year, used only a few weeks at a time.
At the same time, when we bought our own home, we experienced how difficult it can be to manage property abroad without a reliable local contact. There was no one to fall back on.
That combination sparked an idea.
Casa Cantabria grew from the belief that existing homes could be shared responsibly. And that homeowners deserved a trustworthy local partner on the ground.
Homes that stand empty most of the year can be lived in, enjoyed and cared for. When managed thoughtfully, it becomes a natural balance: owners benefit from a sustainable return, and guests gain the opportunity to experience the beauty of Cantabria from a place that feels like home.
For us, rental management is not just about occupancy — it is about bringing homes back to life in a way that respects both the property and the landscape around it.
Today, we live here with our two daughters and run Casa Cantabria as a small, dedicated company rooted in the region. What began as a personal journey has become our work and passion.
Casa Cantabria. Let’s open the windows!
